Discover a wonderful selection of cities on a tour that takes in some of Tuscany's most iconic sights. From Florence to Pisa to Siena, this is a tour that really shows the amazing essence of Tuscany.
Meet at our London St Pancras Departure Office for your journey on the Eurostar to Paris. From here, continue to Turin by rail, where you spend the night. After breakfast on Day 2, continue onwards by rail to Montecatini Terme, your idyllic base for the next 6 nights in the undulating Tuscan hills.
One of Tuscany's most picturesque towns, Montecatini Terme still retains aspects of its wonderful history within its myriad of beautiful buildings and labyrinthine streets. Montecatini Terme became known as a spa town during the 18th century, significantly reviving its fortunes. The medieval Old Town is perched atop a hill and boasts some incredible views over the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Today, head to the gorgeous Renaissance city of Florence, Tuscany's most populous city and the once-capital of Italy. Enjoy a guided walking tour of this beautiful and historic city, where art and culture come to life. Wander through the narrow, twisting streets and admire buildings that have inspired generations of artists.
While here, you visit the vast Duomo, whose characteristic orange dome is an icon of the Florentine skyline. The jewel in the crown of Florence, the distinctive cathedral has a history that dates back to 393 AD. You also see the unique 14th-century Ponte Vecchio ('Old Bridge'), which is now filled with a number of delightful jewellers and goldsmiths shops.
This afternoon, you are at leisure. Why not take the time to climb the 414 steps of Giotto's Campanile, and enjoy an incredible sight across the rooftops of Florence? Alternatively, you may like to enjoy a coffee whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the bustling streets. There is also a plethora of fascinating art galleries and museums, such as the world-famous Uffizi.
On Day 4, you are free to explore Montecatini. Perhaps enjoy a trip on the Funicolare di Montecatini Terme. This mountainside cable car has been running since 1897, and journeys up to Montecatini Alto. Alternatively, why not visit the thermal baths for which Montecatini is famous?
Continue your explorations of beautiful Tuscany today, and take the train to Lucca, one of the region's most beautiful hidden gems. A walled city that encloses fabulous examples of Roman and medieval buildings, Lucca is still fairly cut off from the tourist crowd and is an utter delight to explore. Afterwards, continue to Pisa, home to the famous Leaning Tower, a Romanesque, freestanding bell tower built in the 12th century. The tower confounded people for centuries due to its lean, and is a true icon of Italy. There is time here to discover the typically Tuscan Old Town, filled with terracotta-roofed houses that line the winding streets, and the Field of Miracles. Day 6 is at leisure.
Today's excursion is to Siena, where you take a guided tour. The centre of Siena has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for good reason. Known throughout the continent as one of Europe's most amazing medieval squares, the magnificent Piazza del Campo is surrounded by ancient buildings and crowned by the Torre del Mangia. The 14th-century tower rises magnificently above the unique shell-shaped piazza, and is a wonderful spot from which to gaze out over the umberhued rooftops of Siena, and out towards the majestic green countryside beyond. Its communal layout also makes it the perfect place to stop at one of the many pavement cafés.
Bid farewell to Tuscany today, as you travel towards charming Chambery by rail, where you overnight. After breakfast on Day 9, you board the train and head to Paris where you connect with the Eurostar back to London.
