Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway
The Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway is a delightful heritage
railway in Bodmin, Cornwall. The train trundles along a leisurely
13-mile-long route through the spectacularly beautiful Cornish
countryside, passing pretty meadows and rolling hills. The Bodmin
and Wenford Railway is Cornwall's only full-sized railway which
features steam locomotives, making this a charmingly unique journey
that takes its passengers back to a bygone era of rail
travel.
The line officially opened in 1887 and ran until October 3rd
1983, when the line was closed. Soon after, the Bodmin Railway
Preservation Society was formed and began to fight for the line to
be reopened as a heritage railway. They were successful, and the
Bodmin and Wenford Railway was officially reopened for
passengers in 1990.
