Compare the lights, sounds and smells of Christmas Markets across three different countries: Belgium's oldest, Liège; joyful Aachen in Germany and Valkenburg's unique grotto markets in the Netherlands.
Depart St Pancras on the Eurostar service for Brussels after meeting your Tour Manager and group our exclusive Departure Office. Change for the train to Liège for three nights at the 3* Hotel Husa de la Couronne.
Travel by coach across the Dutch border today, to Valkenburg, where you will visit a Christmas Market with a difference. This enchanting hill town is built around a romantic ruined castle and is famous for its unique Christmas Markets which are held in the ancient labyrinth of tunnels underneath Valkenburg.
You will receive a pass which includes direct entrance to both the 'Town Cave' and the 'Velvet Cave', with its impressive mural carvings and exceptional sculptures.
Today you travel by rail to Aachen, just a short journey across the German border. Here you are free to explore the 'Christmas City', a carefullyconstructed series of stalls that form Aachen's Christmas Market. The streets around the Town Hall are filled with traditional German gifts including Aachen printen, a local gingerbread.
The city itself was built on Charlemagne's former palace and you can still see his influence throughout the city. The stunning Gothic architecture of the cathedral and the golden shrine of Charlemagne inside are well worth a visit. On your return to Liège you may choose to visit Liège's Christmas Village.
Here the stalls are laden with chocolate, 'vin chaud' and the Belgian liqueur made from juniper berries, Peket.
Check out of the hotel this morning after breakfast and board your train to Brussels. In the Belgian capital, join the Eurostar to London.
