Visit three of Scandinavia's great cities on this incredible tour. Journey from impressive Oslo, to the 'Venice of the North', Stockholm, and finally onwards to elegant Copenhagen, during your rail tour.
Your Nordic adventure begins today, with your scheduled flight to Oslo. On arrival, you connect with the rail service into the centre of cosmopolitan Oslo, occasionally known as 'the Venice of the North', before transferring to your hotel for the next two nights.
Discover elegant Oslo on a guided city tour this morning. Exploring the city on foot, your tour takes in some of Oslo's most important and popular sights, including the new State Opera House and Oslo City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is famously awarded. Following this, enjoy a food tasting of traditional Norwegian specialities at a local restaurant.
For the rest of the afternoon, and this evening, you are at leisure. Perhaps visit one of the many museums and art galleries that pervade the town? The Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is a wonder to behold both inside and out, with an architecturally pleasing exterior that mixes the modernity of the times with the traditional wooden houses one would associate with Scandinavia.
Alternatively, why not enjoy a scenic cruise on Oslofjord. You can either choose to visit the many islands that are scattered within this calming expanse of water, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery as it passes serenely by. On one of the islands, you can find the imposing Oscarborg Fortress, once an important bastion during World War II, and now a museum detailing its history, and containing a variety of exhibitions detailing its use during this turbulent time.
Today, enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before a short walk to Oslo station. Here, you take a train to the Swedish capital of Stockholm, enjoying the stunning Scandinavian scenery. Enjoy the route as it takes you through dense, verdant forests and sparkling lakes, before finally arriving at our destination for the next 3 days.
On arrival, check into your hotel, the 4* Scandic Klara, before an afternoon at leisure, perhaps to initially acquaint yourself with the city, ahead of dinner at the hotel.
Today is spent exploring Stockholm. After breakfast, meet for a guided walking tour, visiting some of Stockholm's most famous sights. These include 'Gamla Stan', or the 'Old Town', which boasts the title of one of the best preserved medieval centres in Europe, and the Royal Palace, which was home to the monarchs of Sweden for nearly 250 years. After the tour, enjoy a cruise around Stockholm archipelago.
This boat trip is the perfect way to see the vast amount of fairly untouched nature that surround Stockholm, an unusual sight for a capital city.
Today is your last day in Stockholm, and the perfect chance to enjoy a full day at leisure, possibly to revisit the sights you saw the day before. For another choice of what to do today, there is an optional visit to Nobelmuseet (payable locally). Known in English as the Nobel Museum, this is a building dedicated to those who have previously won one of the highly esteemed 'Nobel Prizes'.
Here, you may see exhibitions about the original creator of the prize, Alfred Nobel, as well as visit a bistro, which serves ice-cream and tea that can usually only be found at the award ceremony itself.
This morning, take a short walk to Stockholm Station to catch your rail connection to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. This city boasts of fifteen Michelin-starred restaurants, elegant architecture, and is home to the worlds oldest monarchy.
On Day 7, we enjoy a guided tour of Copenhagen on foot and by coach after breakfast this morning. Whilst on the tour, you pass a series of the cities most famous sights, including the Amalienbourg Palace. This large octagonal structure is surrounded by four identical rococo palaces, one of which is home to the current reigning monarch, Queen Margrethe II. You also visit the statue of the Little Mermaid, one of the most famous characters of Danish author Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tales.
This afternoon, enjoy a canal boat trip from Gammel Strand, passing the pretty and colourful houses that line the shores. A cruise is also the perfect way to see the numerous old churches and beautiful castles on the banks of the canal.
This evening, you are at leisure to enjoy your final dinner of the tour. Copenhagen is famous for its amazing gastronomy.
Today transfer to the airport after breakfast for your return flight from Copenhagen, on arrival your holiday comes to an end.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE HOLIDAYS WE HAVE EVER TAKEN.
With excellent organisation plus a professional and friendly Tour Manager, our trip met our expectations, having travelled with Rail Discoveries and with Great Rail Journeys a few times already. Yes, it was a whistle-stop holiday which left us wishing to return, but we felt that with terrific local guides we got a real flavour of the historic cities we visited. The photo shows the statue of Mr Thon in Oslo.
Enjoyable tour but felt it was a little rushed.
Great trip, lovely cities and the right amount of guided tours and free time.
Interesting itinerary, hotels and food good to excellent, well managed throughout. Luckily beautiful weather which enhanced all the city views.
The itinerary was well planned and the hotels were of a high standard in good locations. The guides in each city and tour manager were excellent.
Another excellent Rail Discoveries trip. Itinerary, tour manager, experience. It was great.
Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to the death of a close family member. We only experienced a day with the tour, but everything we saw was good except for some slight confusion over meals. This didn't detract but didn't allow us to experience the full trip.
Well organised tour with excellent guides and tour manager
We were disappointed with the lack of room facilities in Stockholm and Copenhagen.
