Discover a Swiss Winter Wonderland
Take advantage of our latest saving of up to £60 per person when booking European and UK Winter, Festive and Spring holidays on or before 1st June 2018.
The winter wonderland of Switzerland awaits on this allinclusive festive break. With fantastic excursions on some of Switzerland's most iconic railways, we enjoy elegant resorts, snowy vistas and Swiss hospitality.
Meet at our exclusive departure office for the Eurostar to Paris. Change for the TGV to Strasbourg where you spend tonight. On Day 2 continue to Switzerland, changing at Basel and Chur before reaching Tiefencastel.
Celebrate New Year's Day on the famous Bernina Express to Tirano in Italy. This incredible rail journey is rightly recognised as one of the finest in the world, as you tunnel through snow-capped mountains, cross spectacular canyons and valleys, and glide alongside frozen lakes. Back in Tiefencastel, welcome in the New Year with a New Year's Eve Gala Dinner at your hotel.
Today, travel to the glamorous winter resort of St Moritz on the Albula line, an extension of the Bernina Express. You are free to explore the town. Still bedecked in its festive finery, the charming Christmas light displays and Christmas decorations line the streets, and many of the locals are out to enjoy the final day of the year.
Today is free for you to explore the charming Tiefencastel, a traditional Swiss town with delightful cafés, shops and bustling squares. It's flanked by soaring Alpine peaks.
Take the train to Chur, which is Switzerland's oldest settlement. With a history dating back to 3900BC, this small and beautiful town has a wealth of history waiting to be explored. Here you have time to explore Chur's authentic Old Town, grouped around Martinsplatz with the arcaded Rathaus - Town Hall - dating from 1464. Another sight well worth seeing is the incredible 12th century cathedral, which combines Gothic and Romanesque architecture to make a truly striking building.
After, board the stunning Arosa Line, which climbs 1km from Chur to the charming lakeside resort of Arosa, passing by some lovely historical landmarks, including the Obertor town gate and the famous Maltese Tower. Although the track starts fairly flat, the line soon begins to ascent steeply, eventually overcoming a height difference of 3,280 feet to reach our destination. The scenery surrounding the line becomes more wild and dramatic, as you take in the rocky scenery of the Graubunden canton, before skirting the crystal clear waters of Obersee. Our time in Arosa is at leisure before our return journey.
Leaving Tiefencastel, travel on the iconic Glacier Express through the mountains to your destination in Andermatt.
This train is called the 'slowest express train in the world', as it gently makes its way through glorious scenery. On arrival in Andermatt, change trains and head to Basel, where you overnight.
We join the TGV to Paris this morning. We then connect with the Eurostar to London.
Please note that while every departure of this tour will feature the same excursions, the order may differ from that shown above.
