Magical Norway is a wonderful world of ever changing landscapes; from pretty, traditional towns to the soaring mountains that flank the fjords.

In winter, meanwhile, Norway's landscapes take on a dramatic charm, and the dark northern skies play host to the awe-inspiring illuminations of the Aurora Borealis; the fabled Northern Lights. For those wishing to see the magical dance of the lights at their brightest, there is so better time to visit Scandinavia than in winter.

The Ofoten Railway, which at the time of construction was both the coldest and northernmost railway project in the world, is a 27-mile long line which runs between the town of Narvik in Norway and Kiruna in Swedish Lapland.

The line was originally opened in November 1902 in order to haul ore from mines in Kiruna, and while it is still an important freight line between the Norway and Sweden, it is also a tourist attraction in its own right, with hugely popular passenger services running daily.

With Scandinavia being in Europe and connected to the European Union in various ways, there is no need to apply for a visa when travelling between different countries.

Norway is a safe and relatively laid-back country. Major cities are both friendly and cosmopolitan and offer a wealth of wonderful attractions to explore and enjoy including galleries, museums, historical buildings, theatres and public gardens. Norwegians take their leisure and recreation seriously, and the country offers some of Europe's best café's bars and restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.
